Skins

For every single gun and knife in CS:GO except the defaults there are multiple skins. All skins have a wear, or condition of the skin, the best being Factory New, and the worst condition being Battle-Scarred. For different skins the wear affects them differently. Typically the worse the wear, the more little of the skin is shown on the gun, like the

AWP Asiimov.

There are exceptions like the M4A1-S Golden Coil where it gets darker when the wear is worse. Most skins have the same layout, but others, like Case Hardened and Crimson Web, have certain patterns that people like and thus makes the skin more expensive. Collectors all around the world pay in real money thousands of dollars for rare skins. The richest collector would have $2-$3 million if he sold his entire inventory.

Pattern Skins

`

As you learned in the last paragraph, most skins have the same layout while others don't. The most famous and expensive pattern skins are Doppler, Case Hardened, Crimson Web, and Marble Fade. For Doppler, there are 6 phases, all of the them different mixtures of colors. Those are the official skins while the patterns are

Black Pearl

,

Sapphire

, and

Ruby

. Black Pearl is when the knife's blade is black, Sapphire is blue, and Ruby is red. Case Hardened is a mixture of blue, gold, and purple glazes that mix to create a skin. The pattern's name is called

Blue Gem

, where obviously either everything is blue or mostly blue. A recent AK-47 Case Hardened was traded up to by Anomaly, which was a blue gem. The weapon was also StatTrak, which means the weapon records the number of kills you get with that weapon. He sold this for $30,000 real money. The pattern for Marble Fade is called Fire & Ice. The Marble Fade is a type of fade that has the look of marble, thus the name. The colors of it are blue, red, and yellow, and the pattern is when half of the blade is blue and the other half red. Crimson Web is a bunch of black spiderwebs on a red background. The pattern has no name but simply is when multiple lines connect in one place creating the "center" of the web. Skins v.s. Knife Skins

Which skins are more expensive, guns or knives? That depends on the skin. For guns there are souvenir guns dropped from actual tournaments, like the

AWP Dragon Lore.

The biggest CS:GO YouTuber Sparkles Gaming, opened the first souvenir Factory New Dragon Lore for that championship, which cost roughly $50,00. Anomaly, who grew famous through his reactions to opening good skins, currently has a one-in-the-world skin, the StatTrak Minimal Wear Doppler (Black Pearl). The price hasn't been determined yet but is definitely going to be expensive. Other gun skins like the AK-47 Fire Serpent and M4A4 Howl are also extremely expensive. The Howl was only released a couple of weeks before Valve, the creators of CS:GO, made it unable to get it from opening cases. The wolf on the Howl was copyright, making it the first and only contraband skin to this date that Valve has. The only way to get a Howl is to buy it from the Steam market from other people.
